Vice President of the National Council changes parties.
Monaco's parliament, the National Council
Last week, Bernard Marquet, Vice President of the National Council announced his decision to quit the Union Nationale pour l'Avenir de Monaco (UNAM) party and join the Union pour la Principaute (UP). He remains within the majority coalition Union pour Monaco (UPM).
In a statement, he blamed differences of opinion in relation to interpretating the majority's program and the democratization of the movement. Since the position of Vice President is reserved for a UNAM member, Marquet will step down in April.
Today, opposition party Rassemblement et Enjeux (R&E) reacted to Marquet's move, commenting that it was more like an eviction than a personal choice.
