Last week Minister for Social Affairs Stephane Valeri gathered together Government representatives, bosses, unions and social services to discuss the problem of illegal workers in Monaco. The aim of the meeting was to reopen the dialogue between each of the stakeholders in the Principality's social welfare system, which he has highlighted as one of his priorites.
Illegal workers are an issue for everyone. The workers themselves are not entitled to social protection, employers suffer from unfair competition, and social services' funding is reduced. During the 4 hour meeting, courses of action were proposed:
