The last section of the underground link from Larvotto to Fontvieille should open on Friday.
From 6th August, motorists should be able to drive all the way from boulevard Larvotto to avenue de Fontvieille without going through the centre of town. Trials are taking place tonight and if successful will lead to the permanent closure of the top end of avenue de Fontvieille in favour of a new section of covered road. Eventually, residential buildings will be constructed over the route.
In the opposite direction, from Fontvieille to Larvotto, motorists will need to wait a little longer for the direct route. A roundabout still needs to be built at place du Canton along with the new roundabout at place d'Armes, both of which are planned to be in operation for the rentree on 2nd September.
Other major ongoing work involves connecting the new roads with the tunnels under the Rocher. One lane has been completed and is currently being used for works vehicles. The second lane is being dug out at the moment and should be finished in October.
