Lawyers want to modernize

Lawyers Franck Michel, Sophie Lavagna and Jean-Charles Gardetto are elected to the Conseil de l'Ordre des Avocats Monegasques.

Elected for a year, Jean-Charles Gardetto as treasurer and Franck Michel as President have both been re-elected, and Sophie Lavagna is newly mandated as syndic rapporteur. Gardetto and Lavagna are also members of the Conseil National.

The Ordre des Avocats represents 28 Monegasque lawyers and works towards modernizing the codes of civil and criminal procedure alongside the Direction des Services Judiciaires and the Principality's magistrates.

At the top of their agenda is a proposed law to reform Monaco's legal profession, bringing it into line with the rest of Europe. The draft text should be examined by the Conseil National's Commission de Legislation at the beginning of 2011. The 3 representatives also want to raise the profile of the profession, believing that their knowledge of Monegasque law could be useful to entrepreneurs who hope to establish businesses in the Principality.
