New head of education

Claude Peri takes over the role.

Following the appointment of Yvette Lambin-Berti as permanent delegate to UNESCO in Paris, Claude Peri is now in charge of the Government Department for National Education, Youth and Sport. In an interview with Nice Matin, Peri praised the teachers and expressed his pride in the Monegasque education system's success in languages. About 50% of all students who study English are practically bilingual by the time they attend secondary school. With a total student body of 6000, Peri said there were no plans to increase the numbers, in spite of requests from parents wishing to have their children educated in Monaco.

The infrastructure will however be improved. Architectural plans are being finalised for the new lycee technique which is planned to open in September 2012. A new college will be ready for the 2015 "rentree", built on land regained from the railway line, with a creche and a primary school ready in 2013.

The future looks bright for students in Monaco.
