The Societe d'Exploitation des Ports de Monaco is replacing 228 meters of pontoons with state of the art floating concrete. Technical Director for the company, Daniel Realini told Nice Matin that the current pontoons are old and decrepit. They are made from polyeurethane foam filled containers supporting a wood and alluminium structure, which moves and bobs about when you walk on it. The concrete ones are much more stable under foot and should last for 40 years or more.

Two new pontoons of 84 meters and one of 60 meters will cost around 517,000 euros, or 3500 euros per metre and bring benefits to the yacht crews who moor in Fontvieille. The more rigid structures will be fitted with stainless steel distribution points to provide water, electricity, and television to all port users. Work should be completed in March 2010.
