Government campaign to include 55 to 80 year olds.
Osteoporosis affects mainly women over 50 who have been through the menopause, with subsequent loss of bone density and increased risk of fractures. In August 2009 the Government launched a campaign offering screening for female residents aged 60 to 75 who had not previously had an examination for the problem. An alarming 43% were found to have positive results, and consequently the Government has decided to expand the age range for the campaign to include 55 to 80 year olds.
