More British in Monaco

Results of the 2008 census were published on Monday.

The resident population of Monaco is changing. According to figures released by the Mairie this week, the local Monegasque population is increasing, as are the number of British residents. Making way for this growth is the decrease in French and Italian nationals.

Figures are estimated, taking into account data from households that didn't submit survey forms. But there's no doubt that the Principality is becoming less attractive to the French, who are unable to take advantage of the tax free personal income. Overall, the census shows little change in the total number of residents, nor in the average age of the population. With about 16 500 people aged 45 or over, Monaco's residents represent one of the most elderly societies in the world.
