Here's what we think....
Facebook launched its optional upgrade to Pages at the beginning of February and on 10th March the changes are to be rolled out to everyone. Our sister site maBoum posts Monaco event listings on Facebook, and having used the Pages upgrade for a few weeks, here are our tips for making the most of the changes.
- Fan interaction
Whenever you get a new fan, or a fan posts a comment, Facebook notifies you. We think this is the most important change, as it allows you to reply quickly to your visitors and build better relationships with them.
- Business identity
You can like, comment on, and tag other Pages using your business identity. We're using this to support local businesses in Monaco and to raise awareness of our own Page.
- Page news feed
So far we've had little benefit from this, since the number of posts we see are fewer than on a personal Profile news feed. Your Page profile can only interact with other Pages, so we'll let you know how we get on as we increase the number of Pages we like.
- Page photos
You can now feature Page photos at the top of your Profile exactly like you would on your personal Profile. We don't use Facebook to hold many photos, so it's not having a big impact for us.
One thing to bear in mind is that there's a big difference between posting on your Page when using your personal Profile identity as opposed to your Page identity. Using Facebook as a Page is much less flexible since it doesn't allow you to like, comment on, or tag Profiles or Groups.
At the moment we're finding the upgrade a mixed blessing, but in general we like it.
