How the world sees Monaco

First results of survey revealed.

Monaco's Palace, port, tete de chien

Yesterday morning, administrators and government officials gathered to hear the results of a survey to investigate the perception of Monaco in the world. Initial results show that the world loves Monaco but that the Principality should be more open. Interviews were carried out with opinion leaders, economists, financiers, politicians and journalists, in several countries. Some of the key results were:

  • Monaco's image is not as bad as Monegasques think - negative perceptions of the Principality as a tax haven are usually tempered by positive, authentic aspects, such as the marriage of Rainier III and Grace Kelly
  • Prince Albert's image as head of state is well-respected
  • Monaco is perceived as an inaccessible rich ghetto

Deeper analysis of the results is currently being carried out and will lead to a strategy for action. A budget of 5 million euros has been set aside for the campaign.

Monaco's image abroad isn't so bad!

Study on the image of the Principality : first results revealed

The survey was planned last year, in July 2009. At that time, Monaco called in 3 experts to help the Government change the perception of the Principality abroad. Involved in the project are:

  • Stephane Rozes, polling expert, head of his own consultancy CAP
  • Jean-Luc Mano, journalist and communications expert
  • Regis Lefebvre, advertising consultant

The 3 experts have been working closely with 3 government officials:

  • Francois Chantrait, Director of the Press Centre
  • Robert Cole, General Secretary of the Minister of State
  • Corine Laforest de Minotty, General Inspector of Administration
