Membership of Organization of American States approved.
Monaco became the 65th Permanent Observer of the Organization of American States (OAS) yesterday. Its application was approved by the organization's Permanent Council. The Principality's Ambassador to the United States and Canada, Gilles Noghes thanked the OAS on behalf of the Government. It's hoped that participation will provide an opportunity to strengthen relationships with all the countries of the Americas.
The OAS was established in 1948 with the aim of promoting peace, justice, solidarity and collaboration among its members. Today there are 35 independent member states and 65 observer states, of which Monaco is the most recent. Permanent observers participate in OAS activities and contribute to its programs.
